Welcome to South Bronx Interactive

"My name is Melody Estevez and I'm 13 years old. I have been a part of CampInteractive since I was 12. This past year has filled me with adventure, growth, inner change, and new friendships..."

(For the next week or so, we'll be bringing you the words of kids who live in the South Bronx, and about how interactive media and CampInteractive changed their lives. During the summer, kids in "C.I." are taken into the great outdoors. They record their thoughts in ink or via donated digital technology; and then when they return to the city, they take web design and development classes to produce a work about their experience.)

"...My first trip was to New Jersey. It may seem like anyone can just go to New Jersey whenever one wants, but the reasons I went there made the trip different from any regular trip. I had never been camping before and my group had an abundance of differences. I got through the week and taught myself to become more confident and stand up for myself. Going through a Ropes Course tested who I am internally. I will take what happened in summer 2007 forever.

During the next few months, I learned and taught myself technology skills. I took some classes so I could expand what I already taught myself. When I sat down at the computer I saw a different world. The world of artistic views and expressing ones self. I decided I would dedicate my time to Photoshop.

Now, thanks to the resources CampInteractive has provided me I have another skill to help me in my future. CampInteractive and its staff supports every child that walks into their Tech and Trek center to reach for their dreams and higher."

Sara Holoubek is putting put her money where her heart is. She's announced a $5,000 a "match-funds" program to go to help kids like Melody in CI. So far, just from her article last week, six of our readers have responded and have gotten the annual CI fund-raising campaign going. Let's support Sara in meeting and exceeding her ROI. Sara Holoubek is a free agent consultant serving the interactive sector and its investors. She can be reached at saraholoubek@gmail.com.

Unless you've ever made a fate-changing wrong turn off the Major Deegan, you're more familiar hanging out on Madison & E-42nd than on Bruckner & E-142nd. Look in your pocket and give Sara's CI kids a token.

It will shorten their very long trip across the East River... and make it just one stop away. Thanks, Sara!
