Overzealous Cyclist

When athletes are competing at the peak of physical condition, the last thing they need is a mental error. Take the cyclist in this clip. He's clearly in the lead of the race and you can see his competitor in the background. It looks a little cold and rainy and he's probably exhausted. He makes the fatal mistake, however, of celebrating before he crosses the finish line and wipes out. The guy in second catches up quick and passes him for the win.

I could see this play out in a few ways. First, the competition in the sports drink industry is fierce. Gatorade has the clear lead, but new beverages come out all the time. This would be a great commercial for the new Accelerade beverage to show that being strong through the finish is what matters. Alternatively, I could see this play out for a sport vitamin supplement sold through a store like GNC. The comparison of balancing the mind and body would be easily made clear. Yet another option could be for the Southwest Airlines "Wanna Get Away?" campaign. This guy certainly does.

What do you think? Could you see one of these companies using this rider's mental lapse to gain the lead?
