My Fifth of July Koan, Beached

Ain't No Cure For The Summertime "Dues"

By Jamie Sparrow

Where's my long-extended July 4th holiday weekend?
It's July FIFTH & the agency should be closed. I shouldn't be here!

...If you're reading this, you shouldn't be either :--)

beached7.jpg

Out of school and out of reasons to avoid growing up
All "this", replacing what was once filled with sand & waves

beached8.jpg

Now instead of morning dew, it's what the client is due
The deliverables chill out the office air more than the fan

beached10.jpg

For what? ...pay that covers rent and an every-other-weekend share
Disbelieving too that I think about my boss when I'm on Fire Island

beached4.jpg

Experiencing the new-found self-pity of a full-day Friday
A Summer-killing job with emails about the menu for the client lunch

beached11.jpg

Cynical about the promises of Fall and all the media party buzz to be
Hoping that the night air then is still warm and the excitement hot

beached12.jpg

But right now Labor Day is three would-be suntan lotion bottles away
Coppertone's sales ain't growing with my help this year

beached3.jpg

Though Toshiba's will, with all the stuff I'm dumping on it
Relating to its slow hard-drive today... in more ways than one!
