Commercial Worthy: Here They Go Again
More and more in recent years, the message about exercise has been to exercise recreationally - that is, you get more out of exercise when you choose something that is fun rather than simply walking on a treadmill for the sake of exercise alone.
That's why this idea would make such a terrific ad for a gym like Bally Total Fitness. It's a video that a rock band, OK Go, has created some treadmill choreography that's quite endearing to watch, just because it looks like such fun.
These guys don't simply walk, run or even dance to the song (called Here It Goes Again). Rather, the four of them use six treadmills to create a series of movements, both by moving their own bodies and by using the treadmills to move them. There's no spectacular moves here. They slide, jump, spin, swing, climb the treadmills like jungle gyms and basically act silly - all with deadpan faces.
A Bally campaign could focus on the idea that it doesn't matter what kind of exercise you do (or how goofy the exercise is) as long as you enjoy it.
